The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has revealed four new self-build sites in the latest drive from the Government to help aspiring self-builders.

The sites that have been reserved for development by the HCA include:

  • Urban Pioneers, Middlehaven.
  • Oxley Park, Milton Keynes.
  • Pound Lane South, Basildon.
  • Lightmoor Village, Telford.

These new sites were formerly public sector land and it’s estimated they will make around 70 plots for new homes. These will also compliment the 130 plots that have recently been made available under a Govt. commitment to free up land for those looking to build their own homes.

Speaking on the help that self-builders are receiving and the work that the Government are doing, housing minister Kris Hopkins said: “We are determined to help aspiring self-builders up and down the country who want to build the home of their dreams but can’t find a plot to get started.”

He added: “We are seeing a new kind of house building model emerging in this country and I am pleased to see how positively the development industry and many councils are responding. With the self-build industry contributing some £4bn annually to the UK economy, I want to encourage more builders to make the most of this business opportunity and offer custom build options on their sites.”

The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) are working with the National Self Build Association (NaSBA) in an effort to promote the growth of the custom build sector and this includes working to develop an online platform which will be able to better link up FMB members whom are experienced in developing self-build and custom build projects with potential clients who want their own home built.
